Warriors: A bittersweet ending for Sandstorm

It was a warm day in Newleaf, six moons after the battle against the Dark Forest. In the Thunderclan camp, the elders were telling stories on the rocks.

"So then," said Purdy, "My Upwalker, he said to me, 'Purdy, you are the only one who can catch those rabbits' he says..."

Two of the elders, Dustpelt and Graystripe, were fast asleep. The third elder, Sandstorm, however much she tried, couldn't go to sleep. Her coughing fits kept her awake. As she had yet another coughing fit, Purdy stopped his story.

"Sandstorm," Purdy said angrily, "I am trying to tell a story, but your coughing keeps on interrupting me. I insist you go see Jayfeather."

Sandstorm bowed her head, and went to see the medicine cat.

"It's whitecough," muttered Jayfeather, "but you should probably go to sleep here and rest it out. It will be fine in a few days."

Sandstorm up into one of the mossy nests, nodding herself to sleep. When she woke, it was night, and the camp was quiet. However, she saw someone she hadn't expected to see in moons.

"Firestar," she purred, "I missed you."

Her mate looked at lovingly at her, stars sparkling in his flame colored coat. Sandstorm padded up to him, touching her cheek to his.

"It's time," he whispered.

He then turned his head to touch his nose to hers. Sandstorm felt herself peeling away from her body. She looked down and saw her body motionless on the floor of the medicine den.

"Walk with me," murmured Firestar.

There they padded, side by side, toward the stars. Sandstorm twined her tail in his, and felt the warmth of his fur brushing hers.

"I love you Firestar," said Sandstorm as they entered Starclan.

"I love you too," replied Firestar.
